ABSTRACT

Lasers were introduced in the field of dentistry with the hope of overcoming some of the drawbacks posed by the conventional methods of dental treatment. Since, its first use for dental treatment in 1964, the use of lasers have increased rapidly in the last couple of decades. Presently, in accordance with their specific wavelength, laser equipments are available on a large scale. This article reviews, laser equipment, laser- tissue interaction, various applications of laser in conservative dentistry, its advantages, disadvantages, hazards of laser and its control measures.

ABSTRACT

Glass Ionomer Cement has its origin in the mid twentieth century, as a biocompatible, cost effective, tooth coloured restorative material and is in constant evolution. Considering its unique ability to bond to the tooth structure without the use of any bonding agent coupled with fluoride releasing potential, GIC has gradually emerged as material of choice for various applications in the field of dentistry. This article elaborates on the composition of GIC and its recent advances which have markedly improved their properties for optimal incorporation of these materials into various restorative treatment procedures.

ABSTRACT

Disinfection of the root canal system is one of the major objectives for the success of root canal treatment. Recently, their has been a growing trend to seek natural remedies as part of dental treatment. Herbal root canal irrigants are proven to be antibacterial, antifungal, economical and contains active constituents that have beneficial therapeutic effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and radical scavenging activity, safe to use with no side effects and have proven to be an added advantage over the traditional chemical root canal irrigants. This review aims in providing a comprehensive overview of most commonly used herbal root canal irrigants in routine endodontic practice.
